The Quiet Bower

“Personally I believe this recording teaches us a lesson that:

1. Sing higher is better = FALSE
2. Sing louder is better = FALSE
3. Singing is about applying the vocal instrument in a song, to make the audience FEEL the story of the text, in an artistic or even poetic way = TRUE

Because now there are too many people believe in the stereotype that singing higher is better, or louder is better, that’s why the music you hear on the radio right now are all those whiny male singers hitting the “ah ah yeah yeah” in high notes that sound like their balls got ripped off, or female singers that only belt through the whole song in a yelling and scratchy tone that sound like they are crying all day because somebody dumped them or their dads are dead; and you hear many American Idol contestants yell through the songs all the time, and as I remember NONE of them could sing the low and middle voices in a RICH AND RESONANT TONE, most of them just care about hitting or belting the high notes, and obviously they have no idea about applying the voice to tell the story of the songs when you hear them sing. Hence I put maestro Fischer-Dieskau’s singing here, which does not have those high notes or loud singing or those “show-off notes”, the only thing you hear is the RICHNESS AND CLARITY of his bari-tenor voice and his fantastic poetic story-telling through his singing, and it sounds so beautiful beyond words that many singers can only dream of.”

I think they’re probably right. Especially after watching Eurovision last night! *cough*ALBANIA*cough*
